Business Controls
Good procedures will significantly help an organisation in dealing with minor incidents and disruption that does not require the activation and resources of the Business Continuity Plan.
These Business Controls include:
- An Asset Register – a complete inventory of all office accommodation and computer equipment. Each piece of equipment should be asset tagged with a number and complete details maintained in the register
- An Office Key Register – details of key holders and a list of the keys they each hold. Details of every key held including numbers and letters embossed on each key, date of purchase and the suppliers name, address and contact details.
- Security Alarm Register – including pin codes, maintenance schedule, complete details of all activations including false alarms and key holder call-outs.
- Fire Alarm / Equipment Register - including a list of fire extunguishers, (type of extinguisher and location) and any hose reels onsite. A list of staff who have been trained to operate fire fighting equipment. Fire alarm maintenance schedule and complete details of all activations including tests, false alarms, and key holder call-outs.
- Current Firewall and Virus protection software maintained.
- Employee’s Next of Kin details maintained including a backup copy stored securely off-site.
- Business Interruption Insurance to cover the additional costs of working following an Incident.
- Online data backup – key documents backed up on daily basis.
